Greater Spotted Woodpeckers
Falsgrave Park, Scarborough
22nd and 23 May 2012

Classic views of a male Woodpecker feeding it's young.

At the present time the male seems to be feeding the young on his own, along with, in the last two days, fighting off another male Woodpecker. The female does not seem to be about at the moment and the general thought is that the other male may have something to do with the situation.

Therefore the male, with the growing family, is well over worked and still has to fight for his territory.

Tophill Low Nature Reserve

Tophill Low Nature Reserve
5th May 2012

Excellent trip to Tophill Low, Watton, Near Driffield, well worth the £2.80 per day or £20.00 per year fee and looking forward to a return visit very soon.
See my blog link to their blog, for excellent pictures and information.
As a beginner to Wildlife and Birding, this was a great place to see for the first time a lot of species including the following (not all photographed!!).

Gadwall
Pintails
Avocets
Shoveller
Sedge Warblers
Reed Buntings
Pochard

Also luckily an Osprey came to visit very very briefly opposite the hide we were in, though not a great picture, a good sighting of a stunning bird reasonably locally to home.

Avocets

Reed Bunting

Sedge Warbler

Tree Sparrow (and food!!)

Gadwall

Osprey (lucky sighting)

In Search of Moorland Wildlife

In Search of Moorland Wildlife
12th and 13th May 2012
A trip from Pickering up to Egton Bridge and around Gothland, proved an excellent ride for scenery, a great walking area and some excellent wildlife and birding opportunities.

Would recommend the area to anyone for a good day out on the moors and surrounding forest areas.
