Oyster Catcher (Neist Point, Isle of Skye)

Oyster Catcher
Neist Point, Isle of Skye 04/06/2012

Oyster Catchers around the old lighthouse harbour on Neist Point, which is now unused, though the lighthouse looks as though it's being refurbished into a holiday letting venture at the present time.

Fantastic bright day, though cold when visited.

A good area for wildlife and birds, though possible sightings of Golden Eagles on nearby cliffs did not happen, but that's wildlife.

Plenty of Shag, Cormorant, Gannet, Fulmar and Kittiwake etc around, but quite far away and difficult to get good photographs, with Bempton Cliffs, being so close to where I live, then found no reason to post long range photos of birds, that can be photographed better elsewhere.

See though future blog of Great Skua Photographs, which are a little more unusual and nest in the area

Also offshore a couple of glimpses of a Minke Whale and seal were noted, but as usual the sea was very rough on the most westerly pint of the island.

Boathouse Sunsets (Isle of Skye)

Boathouse Sunsets
Trotternish Peninsula (Isle of Skye) Early June 2012

Lovely sunsets from our boathouse accommodation, our home for the first week in June.

Views are towards the Isles of Lewis and Harris, up Loch Snizort on The Isle of Skye.

We have visited the boathouse twice now over that last two years, can't wait to return again, and would recommend the place to any couple, especially for a special holiday.

Sea Eagle (Isle of Skye)

Sea Eagle
Isle of Skye 05/06/2012

Female Sea Eagle off Portree on the Isle of Skye. (know its the female as the male is ringed)
Unfortunately the pair nested and matted to early and the cold weather forced them to abandon the nest in early May. No signs have been given that they will mate again this year.

Photos from organised boat trip, but fully wild Sea Eagles that sometime drop down for fish thrown into the water.

I had by far too long a camera lens on the camera, (Canon 100-400 L lens) when the Eagle passed the boat, but took best pictures possible with one single fly by
